Yesterday was a great day for me in my artistic career! The presentation of my latest painting, Fetcham House, to its new owners – and it’s a painting of great significance to me.
It was such a privilege to be asked to paint this watercolour painting of an historic building once painted by the artist J.M.W. Turner, no less.
What’s more, the painting was a commission for a brilliant former boss and now a good friend of mine, Bill Williams.
My 60 x 42cm painting of ‘Fetcham House’ is pictured below, together with a photo of Bill and his lovely wife Betty, along with me, at the unveiling in their home yesterday.
This beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian home in Surrey was built in the 1750s and the young Turner was a regular visitor around 1800 to what was then the summer residence of the eminent London physician, Dr Thomas Monro, a patron to many upcoming artists, including Turner, Girtin and De Wint.
An engraving of Turner’s painting of Fetcham Park is in The British Museum and a later Victorian painting of the house, by the artist Alexander, is also in The British Museum. So, I feel I’m in illustrious company!
