‘Brighton at Dusk’ now for sale at Brighton’s i360

I’m excited and very proud that my Brighton at Dusk painting is now available to purchase in the shop at Brighton i360, the 138m high observation tower at the end of the West Pier on the seafront of Brighton. Brighton i360 has unbelievable views of this wonderful town, the South Downs and out to the English Channel and it’s a great place to get a different perspective on a town that I’ve known all my life.

Brighton at Dusk

In 2017 I was commissioned to paint this hyperrealism watercolour for an Art Gallery in Sevenoaks. It was then displayed at the Kent Painters Group Exhibition in Sevenoaks, where it sold.

Brighton is important to me. My parents met there and it’s where I was born, so I aimed to paint an iconic view of the seafront when the sun was setting and the street lights were coming on. Lorraine and I went there specifically to take reference photos for me to work from for the painting and we got lucky with the perfect sunset and light.

The ruins of the West Pier are on the left hand side and the convergence of all the angles is the Brighton i360. There was scaffolding over the Grand Hotel and the Shelters Rooms when we took the photos so I had to refer to the internet to get images of how they should look.

It’s become one of my most popular images for limited edition prints and when we recently visited the Brighton i360 with friends, it occurred to me that prints, greeting cards and postcards of the painting could work well in their excellent gift shop.

So that’s what happened! I was delighted that they wanted to stock them and Rich Clark, as ever, did some superb design work on the cards. They are apparently selling well!

If you find yourself in the area or fancy a different day out, I highly recommend a trip up the tower at Brighton i360. https://brightoni360.co.uk/
